Dr. Erik Stein

Vita

Dr. Erik Stein studied technical cybernetics at the University of Stuttgart and received his doctorate from the Otto-von-Guericke University of Magdeburg in the field of modelling and optimisation in process engineering. During his doctoral period he was a research assistant at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems in Magdeburg. After his doctorate, Dr. Stein worked as a project engineer in the field of automation technology at BASF SE in Ludwigshafen am Rhein. In 2007 he joined the patent department of BASF. Since 2016 Dr. Stein is a patent assessor at BASF as well as a German patent attorney and European Patent and Trademark Attorney in private practice.

Main Areas of Activity

Dr. Stein has been working in the field of intellectual property since 2007. His work focuses on patent grant and opposition proceedings. He also provides expert opinions and advises on technology cooperation and licensing agreements. The cases that Dr. Stein handles span a wide range of industries, including mechanical engineering, process engineering and medical technology. He is particularly interested in issues of automation, including by means of artificial intelligence, as well as nano- and quantum-technological inventions.
